Our office prides itself on continually keeping abreast of changes and improvements in eye care, so that we can make recommendations that improve your quality of life. We strive to provide our patients with a complete understanding of the procedures and their options. Photorefractive Keractectomy (PRK) and Laser Assisted in situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) are two laser vision-correcting methods we offer to decrease dependency on glasses and contact lenses.PRK is a precise, minimally invasive method of reshaping the cornea to correct low to moderate amounts of nearsightedness (myopia) and astigmatism. A computerized laser emits cool pulses of UV light to gently reshape the surface of the cornea to achieve the desired correction. Since the laser removes only a thin layer of cornea less than the thickness of a human hair, the cornea retains its original strength.

LASIK treats low to high levels of nearsightedness, astigmatism, and low to moderate levels of farsightedness (hyperopia). Using an instrument called a microkeratome, a small flap is partially lifted from the surface of the cornea and hinged to the side, leaving the inner portion of the cornea exposed. The exposed layer of the cornea is reshaped with the laser. The corneal flap is placed back in the original position and due to the cornea's extraordinary bonding quality, the flap remains in position without stitches.
