Optomap
In our continued efforts to bring you the most advanced technology, we are proud to offer the Optomap retinal exam as an integral part of your eye exam.
Many indicators of systemic disease and precursors to eye conditions often exhibit first in the periphery of the retina. However, routine retinal examination methods provide only a limited, narrow-field view of the retina, therefore they can miss disorders or diseases that may be present and can be evidenced in the periphery of the retina. To capture a greater percentage of the retina, either the patient's eye must be dilated, causing patient discomfort, or multiple images of the retina must be taken.
The Optomap exam is fast, easy, and comfortable. It can help your doctor identify retinal problems such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal holes or detachments and systemic diseases such as diabetes, stroke, and high blood pressure. These conditions can lead to serious problems including partial loss of vision or blindness and can often develop without symptoms.
An Optomap exam provides:
- An eye wellness scan
- An in depth view of the retinal layers (where disease can start)
- The ability for you to view your Optomap retinal image with your doctor during the exam.
- An annual permanent record for your medical file, which gives your doctor comparisons for tracking and diagnosing potential eye disease.
